Visual character
Opaque green copper carbonate with bands, swirls, or concentric patterning from light to very dark green. Its polish can be silky or vitreous, while each bead may show a different slice of the pattern.
From raw to bead
Rough malachite may look dull, granular, or uneven at broken surfaces. Polishing develops a smoother sheen and makes its concentric bands and green contrast more legible around a bead.

Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of copper deposits. Its layered green patterns reflect successive mineral growth and alteration processes, not a single fixed surface design.
