Visual character
Softly translucent to opaque with an even, quiet color field and a waxy luster. It may appear blue-gray, white, or muted neutral depending on the material, with subtle clouding rather than sharp facets.
From raw to bead
Rough chalcedony may appear dull or irregular because its microcrystalline surface scatters light. A polished bead becomes smoother and more reflective, making its even color and gentle translucency easier to read.
Origin & geology
Chalcedony is a microcrystalline aggregate of quartz, commonly formed by silica-rich fluids filling veins, cavities, and replacement zones in rock. It is a quartz aggregate rather than a single large visible crystal.
