Visual character
Purple quartz that can range from pale lavender to deeper violet, often with transparent areas, color zoning, or small internal features. A polished bead may look lighter at its edges and richer through its center.
From raw to bead
Rough amethyst can look matte and uneven at fractured edges. Polishing creates an even curved surface that increases reflection and can make zoning or interior clarity more apparent.
Origin & geology
Amethyst is the purple variety of crystalline quartz. Its color is associated with iron and natural irradiation, and it commonly forms in hydrothermal settings, including cavities and geodes in volcanic rocks.
